Graphic Arts

I’m not sure I have an identifiable design aesthetic. Some of what I do is inspired, some miscellaneous, some serve a client, a brand, or work as a user interface or user experience element. Most of my work is a playful combination of photography, graphic design and vector graphics. All of it is fun to create.

Not My Circus, Not My Monkeys

Description.

Irreverent? Perhaps.

I created this design to remind me of what’s important in my life and what isn’t. It’s too easy to get caught up in a news industry that’s driven to capture eyeballs, stoke emotion and make a profit at the expense of providing actual news and information or with leaders who are more interested in holding on to power rather than performing a civic service.

So, there you go.

The more interesting and fun details about this design are:

• The saying “Not My Circus, Not My Monkeys” was derived originally from a Polish proverb, “Nie moje krowy, nie moje konie,” or “It’s not my cows, it’s not my horses.” Hence the English and the Polish evolution of the phrase.

• The images in this design are my second experiment playing with an AI image generator. I used Bing Image Creator to create around a hundred images (honestly I lost count), eight of which I finally used to collage together in Photoshop.

• There’s an obvious reference to George Orwell’s “1984” and there’s some other obvious and maybe subtle symbolism.

• I used VistaPrint to upload the design for the coffee cup and T-shirt.
